My Speech

Obesity, Obesity, Obesity, what is obesity?

I am here to warn you about obesity. Simply put obesity is when a person is really, really over weight. This is a major health problem in New Zealand. New Zealand is rated as the 3rd highest in the world for obesity.

The dictionary defines obesity as an excessively high amount of body fat, usually 20% or more over an individual’s ideal body weight. But my definition of obesity is someone who loves the munchies more than crunchies. But all jokes aside Obesity is a serious health condition that can lead to more chronic diseases.

One in four adults (aged 15 years and over) were obese (27.8%)There has been an increase in obesity levels approximately  27%.

Obesity can lead to many health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. Diabetes left uncontrolled can lead to kidney failure, blindness and amputated limbs.

By eating a good diet and regular exercise on at least half an hour a day, obesity can be avoided, it’s up to you, you are what you put in your mouth. The more you eat the
More exercise you need to do. But if you eat without exercise you are asking for trouble.

If you know your overweight or obese now’s the time to change to AVOID obesity. It would be a good idea to change your eating habits and do regular exercises. See a local doctor. Change your eating habits now before it’s too late.

I can speak first hand my dad is obese and he developed diabetes and now he is on kidney failure and has a dialysis machine at home to keep him alive. I would not any of you to see your mum, dad, brother or sister going through the same thing like my dad. Speak up tell them now! I hope you take this to heart and make a change.
